Portfolio Delivery for Admissions 2009

PLEASE NOTE: If you have submitted a UCAS form, you are also required to submit a portfolio.  It is imperative that we receive a portfolio from you. Otherwise your application is incomplete.

Please be aware that there are currently major road works being undertaken outside the Ruskin on the High Street in Oxford. However, the Fine Art Department is still accessible by foot and you should therefore continue to deliver your portfolios to 74 High Street, Oxford, OX1 4BG.  The deadline remains noon on Saturday 14th November 2009.

Please note the following criteria for portfolio submission:

1.  The Ruskin will only accept one portfolio per applicant.

2.  Your portfolio should be no larger than A1 and weigh no more than 10kg.  Larger canvases, sculpture or models should be photographed and these photographs included within your portfolio.

3.  Your portfolio should be clearly marked with your name, on both sides where possible, or DVDs clearly labelled.

4.  We do accept portfolios on DVDs.  Only one DVD should be provided per applicant but you are welcome to advise us of websites or additional links where your work may be viewed online.

For more information on how to prepare a portfolio, please see the downloadable form in our Admissions section of this website.

A panel will meet to shortlist the portfolios on Monday 16th November and shortly thereafter the colleges will be in touch to confirm whether you have been invited for an interview.  The Fine Art interviews take place in Oxford on Monday 7th December through to Wednesday 9th December.  Please be advised that the Ruskin is not able to inform applicants by telephone whether they have been shortlisted for interview; this information comes only from the colleges.

If you have not been selected for interview, we ask that you arrange for your portfolio to be collected by Friday 18th December, at the latest.  If you intend to arrange for a courier company to collect your portfolio on your behalf, please ensure that the company have the name on the portfolio, rather than just the destination address.  Many courier companies have tried to collect packages only to discover on their arrival that they do not know whose work to collect!

If you are invited for an interview, please do bring along any additional work with you that you would like to talk about and present to the interview panel.  You can then take your portfolio away with you after this has taken place.

Finally, please note that the University may use the work which you submit to the extent necessary for the conduct of the admission process.  The University is not in a position to verify the contents of portfolios, or to make any special arrangements for care, custody or return.  The University cannot therefore accept responsibility for any loss or damage.

If you have any further queries regarding the Admissions process, please either contact the University’s Undergraduate Admissions Office on 01865 288000 or the Ruskin office on 01865 276940.

We are looking forward to receiving your portfolio!

Ruskin School Open Days

The Ruskin hosts a number of open days throughout the year and you are welcome to come and visit the school on these days and tour the studios.  Ruskin open days are selected to occur with the University wide open days, when other departments and colleges are also open.  In 2010, the Open Days will be held on 30th June, 1st July and 17th September.  Please note that there is no requirement to visit the Ruskin prior to applying, but you may well find it very useful to come and visit us.

Each open day follows the same programme and the afternoon session mirrors the morning one, so there is no need or advantage in coming to more than one session. The school has two sites within Oxford at 74 High Street & 128 Bullingdon Road and we start our tour at the High Street.  There is no need to book, just come along on the day. For directions see the map on the front of the website.

11.00 a.m. - 1.30 p.m.
Introduction at 74 High Street followed by a tour of the studios.  Afterwards you can tour the studios and workshops at 128 Bullingdon Road.  Members of staff and some students will be available to chat to at both sites. The studios and workshops at Bullingdon Road are approximately 10 minutes’ walk from High Street.

2.30 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.
A repeat of the morning session.

Parking in Oxford is very limited and should be avoided if possible. Park
& Ride bus services operate between the city centre and parking areas on
the outskirts. Drivers coming to Oxford from the east, including London,
the south and the west are advised to use the Redbridge Park & Ride, while
drivers arriving from the north can choose between Pear Tree and Water
Eaton. Please avoid both the Thornhill and Seacourt Park & Rides which are
often full very early in the morning, especially on open days.

Full details on the buses to Oxford city centre from all the Park & Rides
are available at http://www.parkandride.net
If you would have any questions please call Juliet Franks, the Ruskin School Secretary on 01865 276940 between 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday-Thursday.  Alternatively, send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
