US Alumni Antics
Sarah Wilkinson (Projects and Alumni Relations Coordinator) recently set off to the States to launch the US branch of Ruskin School Alumni Society in New York with Professor Brian Catling, followed by breakfast with the Vice-Chancellor and then a trip over the LA and San Francisco to meet some West Coast alumni. On her travels she met with many interesting arts professionals including those involved with the Ruskin Professional Practice Programme in NYC (set up by her fabulous colleague Juliet Franks).
She ate in a Los Feliz French style cafe with Medeni Griffiths (BFA 2003-6), Sanghee Ahn (BFA 2002-5) and Jonathan Mills (BFA 1978-81), made a visit to the stunning Getty Center, took a ride on a San Francisco cable car with George Brooks-Hutton (BFA 1988-91) and Julius Lumsden (BFA 1986-9) and saw the beautiful San Francisco Institute of the Arts (also founded in 1871), some parrots, the famous zig-zag road and the Golden Gate Bridge (and many more wonderful sites).
Weather wise NYC not so hot, but stunning sunshine around Route 66 and warm if not jet lagged memories to bring back, despite the slightly worse for wear NYC days!
Reconnecting and hearing about ex-Ruskinites and bringing them back into the fold so they are not so “ex” anymore is what Sarah loves to achieve and she hopes that globally other cross-generation alumni will be inspired to meet up and share their experiences of the weird and somewhat wonderful world of the art school in Oxford and life since leaving.
