Birgit Skiӧld Memorial Trust Prize
Farniyaz Zaker (Ruskin DPhil student) has been awarded the Birgit Skiӧld Memorial Trust Prize at the International Print Biennale. This collection relates directly to histories and memories embedded in gardens and carpets, both of which inspired Zaker’s imagination as a child and continue to shape the memories of her childhood.
Pictures of a little peaceful garden escort her as she shapes her Eastern garden in the Western world. Each piece of carpet contains hundreds of small ingredients, each of them is inscribed with fragments of messages that are highly evocative and include subtle references to personal experiences, memories, traumas, influences and to the Zaker’s imagination of gardens. These little ingredients all together will merge to shape her Earthly Paradise.
