Claudia Sarnthein
While working in a wide range of media (drawing, collage, installation and artists’ books amongst others),
I am mainly guided by the secret of the image, and perhaps less by a narrative or rationale. The work emerges through a long non-verbal process of condensation, an attempt to distil essence. I am in search of pictorial incidents, where something is just appearing or about to disappear. It seems, it is the detachment of the threshold-image which interests me most.
After having studied Art History/Design in Vienna and Hamburg, I worked as designer in theatre /opera for several years. Later, I completed an MA (Painting) at the RCA in London which lead me towards exhibiting and teaching within a Fine Art context.
